This is an original Sheffield Lab Direct-to-Disk, Limited Edition Audiophile Pressing. Sheffield are the pioneers of Direct-To-Disc recording and had much to do with the advent of the "audiophile" label put on recordings that exemplify top standards in recording, mastering and pressing. Long out of print, these original Sheffields are considered to be some of the finest recordings ever produced.

LAB 1 marked Sheffield's third adventure in direct to disc recording. The purpose of recording in this live and direct method is to obtain the sonic merits of the pure disc medium as opposed to the characteristics of tape. In making a direct to disc recording, there is an optimum point, a plateau where the mixing, performance and feel, all happen at once.
