Jimi Hendrix Experience : Miami Pop Festival is the first-ever release of one of the guitar virtuoso's most sought-after performances, as originally recorded on site by Hendrix's long term sound engineer, Eddie Kramer. Never available in any form, Miami Pop Festival is being released as a limited edition numbered double 12-inch audiophile vinyl set (all analog cut by Bernie Grundman, pressed at QRP on 200 gram vinyl).
Hendrix's headlining set at the two-day festival took place at the Gulfstream Park racetrack in Hallandale, Fla., on May 18, 1968. In addition to the usual Hendrix live staples such as "Hey Joe" and "Red House", the album includes the first recorded stage performances of "Hear My Train A Comin" and "Tax Free". There are also bonus performances of "Fire" and "Foxey Lady" recorded at his afternoon slot.
‘Miami Pop Festival' is being released to coincide with the documentary "Jimi Hendrix: Hear My Train A Comin," which will be shown on PBS' "American Masters" series, also on Nov. 5, and will be available for sale on DVD / Blu-ray that same day. The documentary promises to be — in the words of Hendrix's half-sister Janie, who runs Experience Hendrix LLC - "an in-depth look at the life and legacy of Jimi with his own words as well as the words and memories of those that knew him well and were close to him."
The DVD will contain the entire film and a host of previously unreleased footage not featured on the telecast, including Miami Pop, the 1970 New York Pop Festival and the Love & Peace Festival at the Isle Of Fehmarn in Germany on Sept. 6, 1970, less than two weeks before Hendrix's death.
